VA – Mexican Summer/Waterloo Compilation (2010) 320k BuyOnly pressed 300 copies of this which was available at SXSW.
Mexican Summer, an LP vinyl and digital only label from Brooklyn,
New York, teamed up with Waterloo Records, an independent retailer from
Austin, Texas to release a compilation featuring artists from SXSW 2010.
The compilation is kicked off with “Desert Raven” by Jonathan
Wilson, American Psychadelic Folk from North Carolina. The Samps, a
digital trio from California follow. ”Bird in the Bush” by The Young,
is complete with surfy guitar and vocals. A couple bands from San
Francisco are included; The Alps with “Spray”, and The Mantles, a four
person band with “Lily Never Married,” folk/rock.
The Black Ryder, come in, a droney Australian duo, perfect for a
soundtrack after the title character smokes a joint, pops acid, or
partakes in any other mind altering scenarios.
The compilation begins to end with Dunes, female vocals and folksy,
70’s sound. Linda Perhacs, comes in, acoustic guitar and melodious,
etherel singing. Andrew Graham and The Swarming Branch from Columbus,
Ohio finish with a strummy beat, and song/talk.
Mexican Summer meets Waterloo ranges from psychadelic, rock, and
folk, or a combination of the three and all find a common thread in this
easy listening compilation.
