Limited edition (500 copies), 2 disc release of the studio soundtrack to silent film The Golem by Black Francis, as originally performed live in 2008 at San Francisco’s Castro Theatre.

Black Francis has released his long-in-the-works project The Golem, a 4CD/1DVD set and 50-page book chronicling the score to the silent 1920 German expressionist film “Der Golem” that the Pixies frontman wrote and performed for the San Francisco International Film Festival in 2008.

The set, available for $90, features the studio recording of the score — produced by Pixies studio/touring keyboardist and former Magic Band/Pere Ubu member Eric Drew Feldman — on two CDs, and a live version recorded during the film fest at San Francisco’s Castro Theatre on two more discs. The DVD includes the film synced to the score.

Limited to 500 copies, the book includes photos and extensive handwritten notes and musical notations, and each copy is hand-numbered and autographed by Francis — who also is set to release his next rock record, NonStopErotik, on March 30.
